Fanclubs and Dynamite International
An analysis of fanclub publications
In Cliff's history, he has avoided having any official fanclub. Instead, he encouraged local fans to organize fanclubs. As such, there were dozens, perhaps hundreds, of fanclubs around over the years. Cliff's office would try to share information and news to the various fanclubs about his activities.
Rising above the myriad of fanclubs was the International Cliff Richard Movement (ICRM) (https://web.archive.org/web/20101016053352/http://www.cliffrichard.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=26), having launched in 1961 out of the Netherlands by Harry de Louw. They generated the excellent publication, Dynamite International, which was distributed to other Cliff fanclubs around the world, for distribution to the fans. It was an indispensable document to keep track of Cliff's activities over the years.
After almost 50 years of existance, the IRCM closed and the Dynamite International stopped being published in 2009, with the unexpected death of Harry de Louw and the rise of the internet making information much faster to dissemenate to fans. In addition, Cliff closed down his offices in the UK in 2011, cutting off a source of direct information for fans.
